Dining Out For Life is an annual dining fundraising event raising money for AIDS service organizations. Longtime NBC 10 news anchor and reporter Mario Hilario is chairing this year’s Dining Out for Life event benefiting AIDS Project RI on Thursday, April 25 at participating restaurants across the state.

Speakeasy Bar And Grill Will Donate 25% of Proceeds to AIDS Project

AIDS Project RI executive director Thomas Bertrand, MPH, pointed out that, according to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately one of five people living with HIV in the United States do not even know that they are infected. “Funds raised via Dining Out for Life help AIDS Project RI conduct community-based HIV testing to help people know their status,” he said.

“I am honored to chair this important event that brings about awareness of HIV/AIDS as well as raises funds for HIV testing, education and prevention efforts, and to care for people infected with HIV,” said Mr. Hilario.

So far, eighteen restaurants have signed up to donate a portion of their Thursday April 25 sales to AIDS Project RI. “We continue to sign up restaurants, so that number will likely change every day as we approach the event,” said Ms. Stein. An up-to-date listing is available at www.aidsprojectri.org.

“We ask everyone to take a look at the list and make a point to dine out at one or more of the participating restaurants on that day,” she said. “These establishments are supporting the fight against AIDS, so we’re asking the community to support them.”

All you have to do is visit at least Speakeasy Bar & Grill on April 25th!

Newport Storm has always done things a little differently, but we like to think it’s for the better! Cyclone Will is no exception- this beer is as big and bold of a hopped-up beer as we’ve ever brewed! Following true West Coast IPA style, this latest in the Cyclone Series is nothing but pounds upon pounds of delicious hops!

Named after the fourth founder of Newport Storm Brewery, Will Rafferty, we wanted to honor Will, from Spokane, WA, with a West Coast IPA made right at home on the East! Using a baker’s dozen of hops to ramp up this brew, Will is a bitter, earthy and a little florally, all at the same time! Three different kinds of hops were used just for Bittering, Flavoring, Aroma and the final dry hop, each!

By definition, West Coast IPAs tend to have a smaller malt profile, while the hops dominate with an intricate hop profile; versus the more “balanced” East Coast IPA which generally has an even mix of the two and a slight sweetness. Given that Mr. Rafferty was a complex guy and the “tinkerer” of the original four at Newport Storm, Brew Master and close friend, Derek Luke had to create a beer that would do Will justice! Test batch after test batch we kept upping the BU’s and downplaying specialty malts, isolating the resinous aromas and flavors that would create just the beer we were looking for. Late additions of Nugget Hops in the boil coupled with multiple finest kind varietal dry hop additions embellished such layered hop complexity. A lengthy conditioning process allowed for all the flavors to come together.

“We wanted to be true to the style and brew it how he would want it brewed—with lots of tinkering and lots of coming back each day to work on it,‟” says Luke. “A little bit of hops every day, in every part of the process. We put hops in the mash. We added 6 additions in the kettle. We added hops at 6 different stages after the beer was fermented… Let’s just say we added more hops to this tank than any other tank we have ever brewed…

“Will” will be available the week of March 18 throughout RI, CT & MA. As always, a kick-off event for this new brew is in the works at Storm.

The key to surviving the marathon that is St. Patrick’s Parade Day in Newport, is to get a good breakfast in (and keeping it down).  We are now going to reveal to you our little secret to making it from 8am until 1am year after year…. start your Saturday and your Sunday at The Gas Lamp Grille!

The Gas Lamp Grille breakfast buffet is a great foundation for a long day of drinking and laughs. On Sunday, their recovery brunch will get you feeling like yourself and back up to speed so you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day properly. Trust us on this one, food and the Gas Lamp Grille should be your best friend during this weekend. 

Parade Day Breakfast Buffet | March 16th | 8am

For the parade day breakfast buffet, Gas Lamp Grille usually breakfast items, eggs, waffles, sausage, bacon, hash browns; then they add a few other things like bagels, cinnamon buns, fresh fruit salad, and a variety of quiches. The breakfast buffet runs from 8 am until 11 am, is all you can eat, and is priced around $16. There is also a Make Your Own Bloody Mary Station!

Gas Lamp Grille then switches over to an abbreviated sandwich and appetizers menu for the rest of the day. They serve food until 10pm. Sticking with their “Goin’ Green” theme for the day, they serve breakfast (and all food for the day) on regular plates and real silverware, along with a real glass for all drinks. Yes, this is a big deal! Everywhere else you go for the day will be in plastic. Wait until you pay for your 1st “Pint” of Guinness and it comes in plastic and is only 8 oz. Gas Lamp just finished their 925 sq. ft addition to the second floor, so seating shouldn’t be a problem BUT last year by 9am they were packed and there was no where to sit so get there early!

As far as entertainment goes, live music starts downstairs at 1 pm with Rug Burn 1pm – 6pm and then Lazy Dog from 8 pm until 1 am. Upstairs will be Video DJ Mike D from 1pm until 1 am.

Recovery Brunch | Sunday, March 17th

Recovery Brunch on Sunday is key, let’s be honest you’re going to drink too much and be feeling like heck. Head to Gas Lamp Grille for their Recovery Brunch and get back to where you need to be to make the best out of Sunday Funday St. Patrick’s Day style!
